Happy October, Friends! 

Autumn has officially begun here in the northern hemisphere. I love this time of year. Leaves changing colour and falling from the trees is nature’s incredible reminder that change is natural and ever present in our lives.

What does 3 months mean to you?

There are three months of 2025 left. Some people, you may be one of them, may hear that and think ‘only 3 months, time has nearly run out for this year’. It’s easy to see how this way of thinking embeds itself in our minds. Thoughts such as ‘I have so much to do, time passes too quickly, I’ve not started in the 9 months already passed of 2025, how would I get it done in only 3 months? Oh I might as well wait until January, new year, new start and all that…’

However, you have a choice in how you frame the fact there are STILL 3 months to go of 2025. That’s a quarter of the year! That’s a lot of time! That’s 92 days! That’s 13 weeks! If you want to, that’s plenty of time to mix things up, start that thing, change that habit, smash that goal and create a life you truly love.

A small change is still change 

It’s even easier to see 3 months in a positive light if we see change as a series of small steps rather than change only counting if it constitutes a massive transformational leap. Don’t get me wrong, change can come in huge, astounding and exciting ways. But I’ll let you into a secret, the smallest difference in the way you think and feel matters. It all starts in your mind. The way you show up in life, the way you ultimately act and behave, all starts with how you think and feel. And that, my lovely friends, is in your power to curate, and transform when necessary, however you see fit.

As Autumn reminds us, change can be incremental. All the leaves do not suddenly drop from all the trees. One by one, each leaf, gradually, and in its own way and in its own time, makes its way to the ground. A small difference, is still change. It is still a step towards creating a life you love, to you overcoming whatever it is that may have been getting in your way, until now.

Let’s take an example

Perhaps you wanted to use 2025 to eat healthier so you had more energy. It’s now October and you are still reaching for the sugary snacks. This annoys you as it undermines all your exercise and isn’t aligned with your overall goal. The default here is two fold: 1) you are eating sugary snacks unintentionally, it’s an old habit that has become stuck and 2) you berate yourself for being that way, for letting yourself down, for being unhealthy.

Reality and response

In this situation, you have a lived reality of eating sugary snacks and an emotional response of being unkind to yourself. You can continue to choose your default emotional response or you can choose to be kind to yourself and observe what’s going on in a curious and kind way. What if you reframe your, self perceived, failure as really useful feedback on your lived reality? What is my sugary snack habit telling me that I need? What is the story I’m telling myself here? Is it that I deserve it? Is it that I’m bored? Is it practical? Am I not fuelling myself properly at mealtimes so I need a sugary boost to get me through? Do I need to fill my space with healthier, alternative snacks so my mind and body seek them out before, and instead of, the sugary ones? Or is it something entirely different?

A first step is all it takes 

Ultimately ask yourself, what’s the first step I need to take to create the life I want – in our example that life is where you choose healthier snacks over sugary ones. Visualise that life and then take a tangible action step to create change in your life.

The power of choice

If you remember one thing from reading this today, let it be this: you have a choice in how you think and feel. Even if it’s only a glimmer of a difference, the tiniest of changes, there is a choice for you out there in how you think and feel, about that thing that has been hampering you in some way, until now. Choice gives you power. It gives you possibility and hope. So grab that choice with both hands and use these 3 amazing months of 2025 that are still to come, to create a life that lifts you, and fulfils you.
